The 'Little Bang in the Laboratory'

Christina Markert, Ph.D., assistant professor of physics at The University of Texas at Austin and STAR collaborator at one of the premier particle detectors in the world, Brookhaven National Laboratory is one of more than 500 physicists and skilled specialists that are working to understand the nature of the early universe and the tiniest building blocks of matter through the study of nuclear collisions at the highest energies achieved in the laboratory.

If you have ever wondered what matter is, or where mass comes from then join us for this engaging talk. Dr. Markert will provide an introduction to the characteristics of strong force nature and the opportunities that arise from creating this new phase of nuclear matter.

The Research Office Complex (ROC) is located in the southwest corner of Burnet Road and Braker Lane (immediately adjacent to BEG) on the University of Texas J. J. Pickle Research Campus.

The forum will meet in seminar room 1.603 at the Research Office Complex where the Texas Advanced Computing Center is now located.
